I seen this a while back. Very interesting. I don't see any way other than an experienced programmer who knows code, going into the game's code and noticing "Hey, there's a hack I could do that could turn it into a Flappy Bird-style game." especially considering all the complex things he had to do and do them perfectly. You wouldn't be able to just play the game and find a glitch and know that you can expand upon it and do the things he did the way he did them.
