No problem.  Wink

Strange, for some reason I'm getting all these "Invalid read from 0xffffd848, PC = 0x805ad888" type messages the first time I talk to someone.

Yeah, using Dolphin.

I'm not sure. I don't know what that could mean. Neutral Bully might have some insight on this error, not absolutely sure though. I find Dolphin spits out errors, and doesn't give you any clue as to why it got the error, or how to fix it. I've gotten that error many times before, playing different games... Just click on ignore, and continue playing. That's what I do. Code works fine on the Wii. I don't know what else to say. If we can't help you here, make a post on the Dolphin forum.

I'm using an NKIT ISO for the 1.02 version. If I click ignore it just freezes unfortunately. I'll try using a full regular ISO of 1.02 to see if that makes any difference.

Brandon8o

Brandon8o

So doesn't appear to matter if I'm using full regular ISO vs NKIT, game just freezes up either way. Very odd. I've got a working instant text code for 1.00. Trying to figure out these codes and how they work is a bit beyond me I'm afraid ha

I don't understand PPC ASM (what this code is written in), but 160 is A0 in Hexadecimal (the numbrs and letters in the code), however, there are two A0's in the code. Try changing one to begin with to something like 03 (3x), and see if that helps any. If it doesn't, change the other A0, and then if still nothing, change both of them to 03.

Brandon8o

I can confirm that this code does work for NTSC v1.00

Instant Text (160x Normal Text Speed) [brkirch]
C2115A00 0000000A
48000009 000000A0
7C6802A6 80830000

38800000 38A00001
4E800421 4BFFFFC4
388000A0 90830000
807F0720 00000000

If I use it on NTSC v1.02 it just has normal speed text. Doesn't seem to really affect anything one way or another.

This is the code I've been trying for NTSC v1.02 which results in game freezing. It only differs from the above code in the areas highlighted below.

Instant Text (160x Normal Text Speed) [brkirch]
C2115EB0 0000000A
48000009 000000A0

"If I use it on NTSC v1.02 it just has normal speed text."

That's because you are using an un-ported code.

"It only differs from the above code in the areas highlighted below."

That's because this is a ported code, and the Hex highlighted are the address changes.

When I ported the code for Poppatr and another member, they were probably using actual hardware (a Wii), because it worked for them. Do you have a Wii to test the code on?

Also, when posting codes, PLEASE INCLUDE THE CREDITS AND THE TITLE OF THE CODE!

I have a Wii, but I haven't fired it up in years (buried in the garage somewhere, so won't really be practical to try to unearth it), and in any case I'm wanting to use Dolphin for the texture packs and 4K upscaling.

Did you manage to get the code working for US 1.02 on dolphin?

I don't know if the following could be of any help, but I made three memory dumps with dolphin for Skyward Sword NTSC:

1.00 with no code
1.00 with (160x Normal Text Speed) [brkirch] code applied
1.02 with no code

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z6oELK6FGpEbhNXMA1rzI-bGS0MJlMLQ/view?usp=sharing

I tried fixing the code myself, but I have basically no experience and knowledge of this stuff. I tried, but couldn't understand how to find addresses, beyond the first line, and what values to insert.

You didn't read what KittenHammers said and the other members... Yes, it works. Codes do not need to be applied in order to port them. It does nothing but change the value / instructions at that adddress, which would mean if you did that, you'd have to do the same with the other RAM dumps, and if shared online, would be useless, as the other person might not be aware of the change(s). Also, RAM dumps, if shared online are supposed to be code-free... ALWAYS!

Why would you try to do something if you have absolutely no knowledge to even so much as guide you? That's like telling a person to work on a car by theirself when they know absolute fuck all about a car, other than having seen and rode in one before. It's impossible! Next time, at least try to learn about Hex and the Gecko Codetypes and how to port a code, rather than just sticking things here and there. If you just "try", you're bound to run into more problems than you can shake a stick at.

I know it works for real wii. I was just wondering if the issue with dolphin could be pinpointed by comparing the dump with the code applied, to the one without it. If it's not doable, sorry.

I did follow your instructions on page one; finding the first address is easy, but couldn't figure out how to find the others. IINM the other poster also couldn't find the other address until you pointed it out. I have read and watched a few guides, but the whole thing is beyond my understanding.

Could it be possible that there are more addresses that need changing for dolphin compatibility, or it's just a dolphin bug?

SnB@BWH

SnB@BWH

Oh, OK. My apologies. Smile I believe it's just a Dolphin bug. Dolphin is very unreliable in terms of compatibility and proper functioning for cheat codes. Dolphin is a very amazing program, however, it lacks a lot of proper functioning. It's nowhere near as good as hardware. It's good that you are at least trying to figure it out. And again, I apologize for being a bit on the nasty side to your comment. I was pissed off at people in my life... Still am, lol
