FIFA 13 [S3F?69]: Can't get cheat codes to work

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, this is my first post to wiiplaza.

I've got a hacked wii game unit and hard drive with all the typical stuff loaded, homebrew, usb loader gx, wiiflow loader, etc. Everything is pretty much up to date. I've used wii hacks from the WiiRD Code DB a bunch of times for lots of games and have generally gotten them to work.

I recently got FIFA 13 (yes I know it's a ripoff--just a copy of 12 with new music&rosters--but my 10 year old really wanted it). I saw the codes for FIFA 13 that Bully posted on the WiiRD Code DB and decided to give them a try.

I'm using wiiflow usb game loader to load S3FE69 from the hard drive. It loads just fine (BTW usb loader gx can't load FIFA 13 for me). I believe I'm running the NTSC version, given the filename of the game file on my hard drive (S3FE69) and since I live in the US. But the WiiRD Code DB says the code file for S3FX69 works for homebrew as well as PAL, so I figured the codes would work for my hard drive based game file.

I edited the txt file down to just a single hack, just to make sure it works. Here's the contents of the S3FE69.txt file I have in the WIIFLOW/codes directory on my SD card:

In wiiflow, I go to the game settings for FIFA 13 and set Ocarina ON and I select the Time Control cheat and select ON. I've checked, and wiiflow creates the S3FE69.gct file in WIIFLOW/codes/gct folder.

The game starts fine and I go to hit the pitch and get into the midst of a game. I hit 1+B to activate the time control, and nothing happens.

Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. Is the WiiRD Code DB entry just wrong and it won't work for my hard drive based S3FE69 file (I thought that's what "PAL, DVDX, Homebrew" meant)? Sorry if I haven't provided sufficient information.

Try some others aswell and we´ll see.

You might have an extra .gct file or .txt file on your SD card that you don't really need. Use the search feature on your Windows computer to search your SD card for any extra .gct and/or .txt files you may have.

Don't use the USB loader to download .txt files. Just use the Ocarina Cheat Code Manager not the Gecko Cheat Code Manager because I found out the USB loaders read the codes better if you have the path for the .gct file set to SD\codes\S3FE69.gct by using Ocarina Cheat Code Manager the USB loader will read the file better since most USB loaders were meant to read it from that path and not SD\gecko\data\codes\S3FE69.gct

Just delete all .gct files FOR THAT GAME and make another .gct for that game using the Ocarina Cheat Code Manager and NOT the Gecko Cheat Code Manager or the USB loader .gct creator.

The game should work with USB Loader GX after you have done those things. If it says "cheat file not found" don't worry unless when booting the game it says "cheats not found booting game without cheats".

If doing the above things don't work then please let me know so I can think of other ways to fix your problem.

Thanks for the quick response! I tried almost all of them before I whittled it down to just the Time Control Cheat. None of them worked. However, for a bunch of them I added button activations myself, and I wasn't sure if the problem wasn't just that I did it wrong. Here's a sample of some of the others I tried:

Thanks for your help. I already made sure that there were no other .txt or .gct files before I posted. I have not yet tried using Ocarina Cheat Code Manager (OCCM) to create the gct (though I DO have OCCM on my wii. Do you really think OCCM will create a different gct than the one wiiflow is creating?

Also, can OCCM create a gct from a txt file that I hand edited on the wii--instead of downloading it from a server? I have to edit the txt file to add various button activators to the cheats before using them. Thanks again.

You're thinking of Cheat Manager, there's no such thing as Ocarina Cheat Code Manager on the Wii.

Delete the [BOF] and [EOF] off the text file.
Have you tried Configurable USB Loader? I use this for downloaded Wii games. It is on the Homebrew Browser or here:

When I try to use the Configurable USB Loader it just boots right back to the system menu. I think it has to do something with my Wii being a black Wii. lol

Unfortunately it didn't. I downloaded ocarina.zip containing codemgr.exe (aka OCCM) and ran it on my PC using my minimal S3FE69.txt file containing just the Time Control cheat I previously lists. I then did a binary comparison of the gct file created by codemgr.exe on my PC to the gct file created by wiiflow. They are identical.

Sorry for the confusion. The [BOF]/[EOF] was just for my post here. They're not in the txt files themselves.

I have Configurable USB Loader. I think I tried it already and it wouldn't load FIFA 13. I can try it again, but I'm curious as to why you think it will work better re the cheats than wiiflow. Thanks for your help.

It looks as if the codes simply will not work for your region. Try getting a PAL region FIFA 13 and use your loader to force NTSC. You should be able to use those cheats then.

This sounds like you don't have all the correct IOS's installed.

I think that's probably it. But there's no way I'm buying a another copy of FIFA 13--I shouldn't have even bought the first one.

How hard is it to create a set of cheat codes for the NTSC version of a game from the PAL version of the game? If it's not too hard, I wouldn't mind trying to do it. Thanks for your help.

Well if the codes don't work universal then the codes would have to be ported from PAL to NTSC. This can be done by simply adding or subtracting a hexadecimal offset from the address of the original code. In order to find this offset, you would need two of the exact same code. One from each different region, then calculate the difference between the two codes addresses. I would help you do this but I don't have a NTSC version of FIFA to remake one of Bully's codes and then port the rest. If no one helps you, maybe I'll try to download the NTSC version and port all the codes.

All we basically need is a ram dump from ntsc-u, no more.

I guess I was hoping there was some kind of "start of game" code signature common to all Wii games regardless of region that I could scan for in the NTSC version and then compare it to the offset for the same signature in the PAL version (which someone could post). Then I could just add the difference to the cheats. If it's more complicated then that, then I'm probably not up to it, since I haven't programmed as the assembler level since the early 1980s!

Thanks for all your help, and for your tentative offer to port the codes. For now I'm going to assume that the cheats simply don't work on a "homebrew" version of FIFA 13 that was ripped from an NTSC disc. Perhaps someone could change the listing in the WiiRD Code Database to reflect that the cheat file works only with the PAL version?
